Welcome to the website of the Dr. Klaun Fund |
|
For more than 5 years the Dr. Klaun Fund has been an endowment fund that supports theatrical performances for children, who have to be detached from their parents. These children are in social care houses for children, in special residential schools or in other special child’s centres.
Dr. Klauns bring a smile to the faces of children. They change their days into days full of colours and happiness. Look through our page and find out. There are still many children who need our funny “antidepressants”, therefore we always welcome your help. Become a part of a good thought and you can help children laugh.

The Clowns´day 2009 was amazing ... |
|
So, it is over again! We were able to create the most colorful square during The Clowns´day. We covered it with clowns´hats, caps, wigs .... and even with colored and sugar-coted heads. During the last but one Saturday in May, the Dr. Klaun was again able to drag into one place a number of people who wanted to enjoy themselves and help, too. The 4th beneficial event „The Clowns´day“ took place on May 23rd 2009. This time we dedicated the Clowns´day to clowns´ heads and things that could be worn on a head – hats, caps and other original head covers. This is a small sample of various smashing inventions, which could be seen on the square. You can see more of them in our PHOTO STORY right here.

Dr. Klauns were at the Dutch Fair |
|
The Netherlands in Slovakia or re:Made in Holland – this was the name of the week betwee May 16th and 22nd, 2009. It was organized by the Royal Dutch Embassy in Slovakia and it was full of various events presenting this country to the Slovaks.
The Dr. Klaun Fund was very pleased with the ambassador´s invitation to take part in an opening event named the Dutch Fair. We were also involved in a rather unusual charity – organizations, that came to this Dutch Fair, donated part of their profit gained from the sales to the Dr. Klaun Fund. We did not hesitate, not a second, and prepared our own stand and brought our Dr. Clowns there. We were honored to „offer“ some of our best smiles. We also offered clowns´noses, toys, and it was also possible to buy a pair of clown´s wooden shoes in our stand.
We were not alone – on the last picture, there you can see a part of LEAF Slovakia crew in action. They brought 3 cars full of sweets and enounced, that they would not leave unless they sell everything in favour of the Dr. Klaun Fund. Their determination brought us 1229 €. Several amazing pictures, which we really value a lot, were taken during the fair: the first two pictures show the Dutch ambassador Mr. Rob Swartbol, who was instructed by our clown Adrian how to ride a bicycle just a moment before the beneficial bicycle ride. The bicycle ride was organized in cooperation with PONTIS Foundation.
Mrs. Jacqueline Swartbol, Mr. Swartbol´s wife, is on the other two pictures. She was personally selling tulips, coffee and traditional Dutch cakes – her and her coleagues´ effor resulted in additional 1272 € for the Dr. Klaun Fund.
Tnanks a lot! (25.5.2009)

Orange team in Trenčín |
|
During the last couple of days, drivers and pedestrians crossing the main bridge in Trencin have had a rather strange view - a pavement, in front of the special elementary boarding school for children with mental handicaps, was full of orange-and-black figures. Those were 70 students from the University of Applied Science from a dutch city Breda. Future managers test their theoretical knowledge in real world every year. This year they have chosen Dr. Klaun Fund as a partner and offered them their skills and powers. Right now, between April 20th and 23rd, they have applied them in this school – Dr. Klaun Fund´s partner – when woriking on a project of renovation of outside surrounding.
The result of their effort is a new color of 300 m of outside fencing, 100 m of inner fences, new color on a garage gates and on a playground. And because hard work deserves sweet reward, the students sat together with children into a gymnasium and enjoyed a Dr. Klaun show prepared for them. The children also added a small present for everyone.
The students paid for their housing and food themselves and funding, necessary to buy supplies, they got from the dutch donors and events they have organized. For the school, the value of this project reached 3.000 € and 1.680 hours of volunteers´work. We took part in a wonderful project – thank you! 22.4.2009

The Dr. Klaun Fund enjoyed their 500th show ... |
|
... together with an audience – diplomats, businessmen, our long-term little spectators – children with various handicaps and their families – who, otherwiese, would not meet together in the hall of Crowne Plaza hotel duirng one beautiful morning. There was fun already in a lobby – Dr. Klaun were meeting guests not only with their jokes and tricks, but also with clown noses – a wonderful little success. The show took place on the stage and in the auditorium, too. Sometimes, Dr. Klauns battled with children over places to sit on, and over who is a better entertainer. We also took a chance to thank to our long-lasting partners and donators. When the program was over, it was the right time to go over feelings and to laugh a bit with a „nose“ on a nose. Picture on the left – there is the Dutch Embassador Mr. Rob Swartbol with his wife (left) and chargé d´affairs of US Embassy Mr. Keith Eddins. The last picture – Mr. Jacques van der Linden (on the right) - the founder of Dr. Klaun; Ms. Yvette Daoud - the Dutch Embassy business advisor; and Mr. Maarten Drenth, the general manager of the Crowne Plaza Hotel; are laughing together.
We thank to all, who helped us create such a marvelous day without a requirement for being paid. We thank to Crowne Plaza hotel for beautiful spaces and the embassy for an invaluable help with the organization of the whole event. 26.2.2009

We have welcomed a new callender of FC AS Trenčín |
|
October 9, 2008 was a highly expected day, which we were awaiting since August – it`s been couple of weeks since the summer photographing of football players from FC AS Trencin together with our Dr. Klaun children and children from DSS Demy Trencin and now the brand New club callender FC AS TN for the year 2009 is here. During the joyful evening, the captain of the football club together with Dr. Klaun and the director of Social Care House DEMY with little Miska welcomed the calendar with clown noses.
At this occasion Dr. Klaun Fund received a cheque for 40.000 SKK. We thank to the club, and the football players, who, together with the club money, donated also their own money, which they collected among themselves in their dressing-room. Thanks a lot. The Trencin football players are not only handsome (what you can see in the first picture) but also amazing people. (13.10.2008)

Dr. Klaun and children were in Bojnice |
|
On Thursday, October 2, 2008, Bojnice were full of children during an event named „Dr. Klaun and children discovering Bojnice“. 466 children together with their 100 pedagogues, assistants and tutors came here from all around Slovakia.
Those were children with all kind of physical and mental handicaps, who most of their childhood spend in boarding schools or DSS without their closest ones. Dr. Klaun Fund has been sending its ambassadors of laughter to these children for almost 6 years. This time, these extraordinary children travelled to visit Dr. Klauns. As you can see, everything was ready even before the first groups of children arrived: each from 466 children got a present; a little plushy monkey, biscuit and Klaun-juice. But especially, their guides – volunteers and students from both Grammar schools in Prievidza, all were dressed in fairytale costumes. When wandering across a ZOO, children were discovering animal secrets – they looked into the monkeys` plates or looked at antelopes` teeth, they touched a snake or burried their little hands into the furry coat of a donkey or a sheep despite of a barrier of their handicaps. And when moving to see another animals, they were „ambushed“ by Dr. Klauns. During a visit of Bojnice castle, guides dressed in period costumes took the children for a journey through centuries. The past was presented to them also by the members of a historical swordplay group „Bojnik“, of course, the clown from the castle could not be missing and mainly - happiness, unforgetable experiences and for us, organisers, a look at smiling and satisfied children`s face.
It was a beautiful and unforgettable day. (4.10.2008)

Golden Goose Award for Dr. Klaun |
|
This year´s 28. legendary Central European festival of humor and satire – Kremnicke gagy – was really extraordinary also due to the performance of our Dr. Klauns. On August 29, Tomas Plaszky, Miro Kasprzyk, Adrian Ohradka, Vlado Kulisek and Igor Strinka occupied Kremnica with their theatres. There were 4 stages and during 3 hours our ladies and gentlemen showed their mastership. Children were laughing, clapping, screaming, helping ... Dr. Klauns were doing with them whatever they wanted. At the end children just attacked not even the stage but also the Dr. Klaun stall. Inside, there was a face-painting studio. Lucia, Natalia and Maria from Art school, like magicians, were creating pictures on children´s smiling faces. The evening celebration was the „Piece the resistance“ of that fabulous day. Here, Dr. Klaun Fund received an award „Golden Goose 2008“ in category „the best street theater“. Dr Klauns Adrian Ohradka and Miro Kasprzyk (already in plain clothes) were honored to go and collect this award.
We would like to thank to those, who visited Dr Klaun stall and bought a clown´s nose, toy or clown-juice there. This way they contributed to the public fund rising with all together 10.066 SKK. Dr. Klaun Fund will use this money for travelling and visiting children during the upcoming months at the beginning of year 2009. (4.9.2008)

A Dr. Klaun football calendar |
|
It was really hot at the beginning of August, the summer holidays were running ... and we were already thinking about the year 2009; the players from AS Trencin football team invited Dr. Klauns and children from DSS DEMY to take pictures for the upcoming year calendar. At the beginning everybody felt a little bit nervous, but it last only a moment - till the jerseies were put on. After that they „plunged“ themselves into their new roles, players and even surroundings were changing and the story of quite unusual football match was slowly caugth in beautifull pictures. The new calendar should be available for its fans sometimes during september and october and the football team AS Trencin will donate the profit gained from selling it to Dr. Klaun Fund. (14.8.2008)

...even Marco van Basten helped. |
|
No, no, the former footbal player, Marco van Basten, does not think about joining Dr. Klaun team. However, despite this fact, he supported Dr. Klaun Fund anyway.
The key role here was played by Mr. Rob Swartbol, the Dutch ambassador to the Slovak Republic. Actually he was the one, who owned a ball with a signature of the legendary forwarder representing Ajax Amsterdam and AC Milan. Mr. Swartbol already made a decision about where the money would go when putting this ball into public auction and therefore he was trying to get the highest bid. The result, 15.000 SKK, went to Dr. Klaun Fund. Ambassador came to hand over the present during Vlado Kulisek, Dr. Klaun, visit in Duchonka. At that time this place hosted children from DSS Hrabiny Nova Bana, who do not have anybody who could take them home even for couple of days and spend some time with them.
Mr. Linden, our Dutch Dr. Klaun Friend accompanied him. Even the representatives of hockey club Dragoons Utrecht, who sustainable support Dr. Klaun Fund with the 10% out of every ticket they sell, joined them. (30.7.2008)

The first Dr. Klaun visit in Prešov |
|
Recently, the number of invitations for Dr. Klauns just rocketed high. On behalf of one very sweet letter we decided to visit children in the Social Care House in Prešov.
 | | And it was not just a regular visit. Dr. Kluans got a present – they could take a break right from the beginning. The children welcomed them with their own show „Let`s play clowns“. Tomáš Plaszky rewarded them immediately. | He opened his „Theater in suitcase“ and magic cubes, caterpillars and other animals started jumping out of it ...... Sweet email with acknowledgement really delighted us and pictures even more. Our Dr. Klaun will gladly come to exchange his skills for the children laughter also the next time. 2.4.2008

The Babscenus tried the role of Dr. Klaun |
|
 | In february, even the actors from Babscenus Theatre tried to be in Dr. Klaun`s shoes for a moment.
In Social Care House Adamovske Kochanovce it was just crowded – like every Sundays during the year. Most of the 95 clients of this centre spend almost whole their lives here. Only few of them go home on weekends or holidays with their families. | Drahomira and Tibor brought them a Laughing Sun together with their theater show „A story about doggie and kitten“. Children helped these two little butter-fingers to bake a cake, they danced with them and they were not affraid to even try the masks. To see more pictures click HERE. 1.3.2008

We`ve stepped out to the 6th year ... |
|
Our Dr. Klauns finished the year 2007 with results that delighted us and children as well – 152 shows were performed in number of „children“ institutions all around Slovakia. This number increased by 83% compared to the previous year.
We would like to thank you all, who contributed, with any amount of money, to our Dr. Klaun „piggy bank“ or directly to the bank account.
| | 20, 100, 1000 or even more, every amount, like raindrops, created an ocean of children happiness helping to overcome their loneliness. We are continuing with the same enthusiasm also this year. In the column on the right, there is a list of destinations that our Dr. Klauns are planning to visit in the upcoming days. Have a look also at our gallery, where new pictures have been added.
